Nana Mouskouri in Ermioni

Nana Mouskouri was at the Ermioni Town Hall on Saturday afternoon 20th July 2019 to collect a prestigious award from the 'Marianna V. Vardionoyannis Culture Awards 2019', hosted by the Municipality of Ermionida, for her life-long services to Music and the Arts.  The President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoilos, was due to be there, but was absent due to a serious earthquake in Athens the previous afternoon.  Nana is a Greek singer, born on 13th October 1934 in Chania, and has released over 200 albums and singles in at least 12 different languages.  Nana Mouskouri became well known throughout Europe for her song 'White Rose of Athens' but her biggest hit was 'Je chante avec toi Liberte' (Song for Liberty).  Her 'official' final performance was in 2008 at the ancient Herodes Atticus Theatre in Athens, but aged 80, Nana did a final 3-year international 'Happy Birthday' Tour. 

In addition to Nana Mouskouri's outstanding international singing career, she became a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF in 1993 and was elected to the European Parliament as a Greek deputy from 1994 to 1999.  Nana now lives mostly in Switzerland.
